This season he led his college team, the UConn Huskies, with 15.2 points per game to a 30: 3 record, until they lost in extra time to the surprise team of the George Mason Patriots from Virginia 84:86. In his sophomore year at college, which he played with great success, he was honored with a nomination for the best college player in the USA. Rudy Gay then received a scholarship from the University of Connecticut, one of the best basketball universities in North America. Among other things, he was elected to the McDonald's All-American Team, which is composed of the best high school players from all over the United States. By the time he left high school he was known as one of the best players of his class and received a slew of awards and prizes. In his youth, Gay first played at the Eastern Technical High School in Baltimore for two years, until he switched to the ambitious Arch Bishop Spalding High School in the summer of 2002 because of his talent, where he again spent two years.
